Congratulations To Our Very Own “Rojene Bailey”

ROJENE BAILEY TO RECEIVE “THE NATIONAL RUBEN HUGHES LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT BLUES RADIO PERSONALITY AWARD” FOR 2022

Rojene Bailey, host and producer of BluesTime In The City will be honored in August with “The Ruben Hughes Lifetime Achievement Blues Radio Personality Award. The Jus Blues Music Foundation is honoring Bailey at its 22nd Annual Convention on August 4th in Tunica Mississippi, near Memphis. The event will be held at the Bluesville Music Hall located inside the Horseshoe Hotel in Tunica.

According to the Jus Blues Music Foundation’s Board, Rojene has spent more than 30 years spreading the Blues through radio, television, personal and public appearances.

Rojene spent his diverse career producing, directing, editing and writing television programs. The 6-time Emmy Winner developed a passion for the Blues because as he says, “my daddy would take me to the country to visit his brothers, and they would play the blues.” I loved it, and never strayed away from the music.

After noticing his huge collection of Blues Albums at an outing Bailey was having in the late 80’s, a radio programmer from WCLK-Radio in Atlanta Georgia approached him and asked him to do a special fundraising program featuring some of his blues collection. He accepted, and the program went so well, it became a weekend occurrence.

After a few years with WCLK, he was offered and accepted the weekend Blues DJ position at KISS 104.7 in Atlanta, now KISS 104.1. That program quickly became the Number 1 program in its weekend time slot.

Since leaving KISS 104.1 in 2009, Rojene has amassed a huge audience for Blues and Southern Soul by offering it to stations around the country, accumulating thousands of listeners from as far away as Belize, Paris and Bermuda. He can be heard every weekend on stations in North Carolina, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Tennessee, Texas, Iowa, Arkansas, Michigan and many other On Air and On-Line stations throughout the country.

The award is named for the late Mr. Ruben Hughes, a pioneer radio owner in the state of Mississippi and a founding member of The National Association of Black Owned Broadcasters. (NABOB)

Congratulations To Jerry “Boogie” Mason

Jerry Mason is the 2022 receipeint of The Keeping The Blues Alive Award, presented by The Blues Foundation in Memphis Tennessee.  Our congratulations go out to the Editor of The Boogie Report and his many other platforms that the music of The Blues and Southern Soul are presented to the world.

Jerry has a long career in traditional radio and has built a network of media connections through Emails, Social Media, Print, and other mediums to promote the blues, Southern Soul and other genres of music that is becoming invisible in communities of color.  His daily blast of “The Boogie Report” is and has been a medium to keep the Lovers of the music alerted to news, trends, and daily updates to the happenings of this beloved music.  Through his Southern Soul Video Network, his Blues Buffet Radio Program, along with his newsletters, you can see and hear music that’s not presented on “The  Big Stations,” but that does not deter Boogie.  He is always the “Go To Man” for distribution of this precious music.

Congratulation to our friend,  “Boogie” from all of us here at BluesTime In The City…
