postheadericon BluesNews from the World of BluesBlues: January 28-29, 2017

THER BLUESNEWS FROM THE WORLD OF THE BLUESBLUES FOR THE WEEKEND OF JANUARY 28-29, 2017 There’s an article on The American Blues Scene Magazine web site entitled, Ten Things That You Didn’t Know About Sam Cooke….It’s written by JD Nash…..Great piece of reading…Did you know that Sam canceled only one concert during his career, and that was in Memphis Tennessee….The reason was that they had all the black fans in one upper level corner of the theater, and the floor and the remainder of the upper level was for whites only… Sam didn’t like that arrangement and canceled the concert.  That’s just one of the many pieces of information that’s in the article…. Also, did you know that they had 2 funerals for Sam Cooke???  The reason….Well, it’s in that article.  And, A change is Going to Come was inspired by works of Bob Dylan….It’s a lot of juicy stuff in the article that you would think would only happen today…. Would have made a great reality show….We have a link to the American Blues Scene Magazine site on the BluesNews page at Bluestimeinthecity.com… www.americanbluesscene.com We’ve been talking about it, but it’s happening beginning on Monday….The International Blues Challenge presented each year by The Blues Foundation…It’s a worldwide competition of Blues Bands, and they battle it out to see who will be crowned the Kings or Queens of the Blues performers for 2017.  It is literally hundreds of Blues Bands gathering in Memphis Tennessee, and you will see all types of Blues bands. There will also be Bus Tours, Blues Hall of Fame Museum Tours, Blues Networking, Women in Blues Showcases, even Health Screenings and much more.  For more information on this super Blues event, we have a link to The Blues Foundation on the BluesNews Page on Bluestimeinthecity.com… https://blues.org/ibc-schedule-2017/ WHERE THEY AT WHERE THEY AT:

postheadericon BluesNews from the World of BluesBlues: January 9-10 , 2016

THE BLUESNEWS FROM THE WORLD OF THE BLUESBLUES FOR THE WEEKEND OF JANUARY 9-10, 2016 It is time for the BluesNews From the world of the BluesBlues for the weekend of January 9-10….2016… This is from TheAlternateRoot.com…..They have the Top 40, I’ve been saying 50, but it’s the top 40 Modern Blues Artist for 2015….They have people like Eden Brent….Steve Earls and the Dukes…Ann McCue….But what I’m looking for are the Black Artists on this list… I understand the genre of Blues Artists they are looking at for modern Blues, but I don’t see Mr. Sipp…He’s considered modern….Grady Champion….Eddie Cotton…Kenny Neal……Little Ed….These are just a few Black Artists that are really Modern Blues artists… On this list, out of the Top 40 for 2015, let me see…Joe Louis Walker at number 2, John Black at number 15, Jerekus Singleton at Number 22, Keb Mo at 23, Leo Bud Welch at 27, Pops Staples at 31, and Selwyn Birchwood at 40…. That’s pretty dismal for the people that gave the world the genre of music called the Blues…. Only 7 artists to break the Top 40 Blues Artists for 2015…But, They do have the top 50 Blues Albums for 2015….Let me see, who’s Black on here….At number 28 is Otis Taylor…Number 33 is Leo Bud Welch…Number 48 are the McCrary Sisters and number 49 is Bettye Lavette… That’s it… We have a link to the Top 40 artists and Top 50 albums from TheAlternateRoot.com on the BluesNews Page at BluesTime In The City.com…… http://thealternateroot.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=4067:top-50-2015-pt2-sf&catid=199:the-top-ten-of-everything&Itemid=256 http://thealternateroot.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=3388:mblues-artists&catid=199:the-top-ten-of-everything&Itemid=256   From The AmericanBluesScene.com, you keep hearing stories about the blues legend Robert Johnson… You know, the guy that supposedly sold his soul to the devil at the Crossroads… A guy in Pensocola Florida bought an antique desk at a auction. He was going through the drawers of the desk that was full of stuff and came up on an old picture of 4 people sitting at a table having a drink in a juke joint, and one of them was supposedly Robert Johnson, along with his wife, Calletta Craft, Estella Coleman, and Estella’s son, Robert Lockwood Jr. The picture went to Lois Gibson, a forensic artist in Houston, for authentication. According to Gibson, she gets pictures every month from people claiming somebody is somebody.   The picture was verified and accepted by the Johnson Estate. Don’t know what the value of it is, but I’m pretty sure it’s worth some good money…. By the way, Lois Gibson is recognized by The Guinness Book of World Records as The World’s Most Successful Forensic Artist….There’s a link to the article on the BluesNews Page at BluesTimeInTheCity.com….. http://www.americanbluesscene.com/2015/12/fourth-robert-johnson-photo/ WHERE THEY AT WHERE THEY AT:
