THE BLUESNEWS FROM THE WORLD OF THE BLUESBLUES FOR THE WEEKEND OF SEPTEMBER 30-OCTOBER 1, 2017 In the September 21st Issue of Blues Blast Magazine, there’s an article on Carl Weathersby, the Chicago Blues Man who left Chicago and Moved to Austin Texas.  It’s by Bill Dahl and it goes into Carl’s upbringing from Mississippi to Chicago, his iconic journey through the blues, and even his October 15th induction into the Chicago Blues Hall of Fame.  He talks about how he met Bobby Womack and Bobby wanted him to play in his band because his guitar player’s appendix had burst.  Carl didn’t do it because he said, he wasn’t ready.  He did a few years with Albert King but he wanted a permanent gig with a band closer to home because he had kids…..It’s an entertaining article, and it’s in BluesBlast Magazine.  We have a link on the BluesNews Page at BluesTime in the BLUESTIMEINTHECITY.COM BLUESTIMEINTHECITY.COM BLUESTIMEINTHECITY.COM BLUESTIMEINTHECITY.COM BLUESTIMEINTHECITY.COM BLUESTIMEINTHECITY.COM A sad note here from American Blues…..Charles Bradley passed away September 23rd at the age of 68…Charles was a late bloomer and struggled most of his life.. The Brooklyn New York soul man was once homeless in New York City, and endured hardship, unemployment, even the murder of his older brother by his own nephew.  His first album “No Time For Dreaming” was released in 2011 and was named one of the 50 Best Albums of the Year by Rolling Stone Magazine.  Bradley said in the documentary “Soul of America” about his rise to stardom, “I been struggling for over 42 years trying to make it in the industry, and at the age of 62, I’m just beginning to find my way through.”  His last Album was released in 2016 entitled Changes, and that same year, he was diagnosed with stomach cancer….If you never heard of Charles Bradley, we have one of his videos on… It’s a shame that you go through all of that, and when you finally hit it, this happens….. BLUESTIMEINTHECITY.COM BLUESTIMEINTHECITY.COM BLUESTIMEINTHECITY.COM BLUESTIMEINTHECITY.COM BLUESTIMEINTHECITY.COM BLUESTIMEINTHECITY.COM And we talked about the movie Sidemen, Long Road to Glory…It’s about the guys that backed up some of the super stars in the blues back in the day…In the film, they have PineTop Perkins, Willie Big Eyes Smith, Hubert Sumlin, and many others…It’s playing around the country, and I noticed it’s playing in Atlanta on Oct 13-19th…If you’re in that area, I suggest you see the film.  Great History of the blues…. Saginaw Michigan on September 26th…We have a lot of listeners there, that’s why I mentioned Saginaw.  If you want to know if it’s playing in a city near you, we have a link on the BluesNews page at to where it’s playing…..
