postheadericon BluesNews from the World of BluesBlues: May 5-6, 2018

On the web site, there’s an article, or should I say interview, on one of the real treasures in the blues…Bluesman Eddy The Chief Clearwater.  Eddy is 83 years old, and Eddy says he’s still having fun, having released his last BCD in 2014.  He was inducted in the Blues Hall of Fame in 2016, received the Jus Blues Music Award in 2016, and he’s still going strong.  Eddy brought a style and flair to the blues that had not been seen in the early 50’s with his Indian headdress and his struttin across the stage.  You talk about bring Flamboyant to the Blues, The Chief did just that.  The man has been doing this for over 60 years.  He talks about a lot of experiences over the years. Great interview loaded with information on The Chief.  The interview was done by J.D. Nash of American Blues Scene Magazine and we have a link to the interview on the BluesNews Page at BluesTime In The….

And next week is the big week for the Blues Foundation in Memphis Tennessee.  The 39th Annual Blues Music Awards will begin May 10th.  This event brings together the biggest, the brightest, the who’s who in the Blues to honor and recognize the movers and shakers in the World of the Blues.  Actually, it begins on Tuesday the 8th with concerts, and runs through Friday the 11th with all types of activities including Book signings, The Blues Hall of Fame Inductions, Jam Sessions, Meet and Greets, Health Screenings, where they will have doctors, nurses and other health professionals to check you out….They even have a 12 step program and a Blues Yoga Class.  You can do the Blues Down Dog. Get it….Get it….If you want the full schedule on the Blues Foundtion’s week of activities, we have a link on the BluesNews Page at

And a sad note here….(Music) That’s Deborah Coleman and this is the title cut from her BCD, Taking a Stand.  Guitarist Deborah Coleman made the transition unexpectedly on April 12th in Norfolk Virginia.  She lost her battle with pneumonia.  She was 61 years of age.  I liked to call Deborah “The Sista Guitar Slinger” because she could play a guitar.  Deborah was a Navy brat, and caught the blues bug in high school.  She released many albums over the years including Taking a Stand, I Can’t Lose, Livin on Love, and Soul Be It, just to name a few. She traveled nationally, and internationally to display her talents, and one thing a lot of people did not know about Deborah, besides being a master guitarist, she was also a master electrician.  A memorial service was held for her on April 19th.  The Blues World mourns the loss of Deborah Francine Coleman, The Sista Guitar Slinger.  Our condolences go out to the family of Deborah Coleman, one of the Blues finest….
