THE BLUESNEWS FROM THE WORLD OF THE BLUESBLUES
FOR THE WEEKEND OF MARCH 2-3, 2019

Katrenia Jefferson

It’s sad for us to report that Katrenia Jefferson, The Blues Songstress in Jackson Mississippi made the transition on February 20nd.  She was 61 years of age.  Katrenia was a very souful bluesy singer that appeared all around the southeast.  She was a giant of a woman with vocals that were unmatched by any.  I was reading an interview that was done by Jazzii A in the Jefferson Blues Magazine from August 2014, where Katrenia was talking mainly about her life, and in the article she related this very funny story where she was at a concert with some great friends of hers, in the business, and as one friend was on stage performing, her voice kind of went out….The friend called Katrenia on stage and asked her if she knew the song…..Katrenia said yes, finished the song to great acclaim, and was made a part of the group that night…And this interview talks about all of the community service she rendered, being an advocate for women’s health, the ups and downs of the music industry, family, and much much more.  We have a link to that article and other information on the BluesNews page at bluestimeinthecity.com…….Katrenia Jefferson will certainly be missed tremendously by her friends and fans, and our thoughts and prayers go out to her family.
