This is January, and in Chicago that means it’s time for Buddy Guy’s Residency shows at Buddy Guy’s Legends…..This is for the true blues fans.  During this Residency, Buddy will perform 16 shows at the club and the opening acts for Buddy are some of the best bands in the Chicago Area ad sourrounding areas….
Some of the opening acts are Bobby Rush….Eddy Clearwater….Demetria Taylor….Lil Ed….Jimmy Burns…Eric Gales….John Primer and many other great Blues Men and Women of the Chicago Area….And get this….Just in case you don’t want to be in Chicago in January, where you know it cold, select shows will be streamed Live at…. This residency started the 4th of January and will run through January 28th…….. We have a link to the schedule on the BluesNews Page at….

Big doings in Memphis Tennesse beginning next week, January 16th through the 20th…. It the 34th International Blues Challenge.  The IBC is a competition of Blues Bands from all over the world competing to see which band is the best.  The way this works, is the local Blues Society or organization presents a local competition to select the best local act to represent them in Memphis on the IBC stage.  That act compete with the represented acts from all over the world.  Those bands are judged by Blues Professionals and from the days of competing, a winner is determined.  Past winners include  Zac Harmon, Grady Champion, Selwyn Birchwood, Ben Hunter, Dawn Tyler Watson and many others.….….Not only do they have the Blues Challenge that week, but  they have Youth Showcases, Bus Tours, Health Screenings, and wait a minute….Some of you may want to go just for this….Speed Dating for Musicians and the industry……You might end up with a sole mate……..Plus there are many other activities.  If you want to see a schedule of the IBC, and all the activities during that week, we have a link on the BluesNews Page at….

And of course, this is the Martin Luther King Jr Holiday weekend, as the members of the King Commission would tell you, instead of taking a day off from whatever you do, work or whatever, take a day on.  Volunteer to help someone, an organization, the church, a group….Help someone.  And remember, the Blues played an integral role in the Civil Rights movement.  Many artists made their ways to the camps to entertain the marchers during those times.  A lot of artists did, but the Blues artists especially……
