There is a video out entitled The Southern Soul Kings.  It’s all about the artists that are on the Southern Soul tour, and how they interact back stage, talk, prepare to perform, and stuff like that.  If you are interested in some of the elite players of Southern Soul, check out this video.  It was shot in Atlanta Georgia and it features Sir Charles Jones, Willie Clayton, Big Pokey Bear, J Wonn, Bigg Robb and many more.  Big Pokey Bear is even talking about he’s the new King of Southern Soul…..The Brothers are styling and profiling.  Really Cool Video on the Southern Soul Kings…If you want to view it, we have a link to it on the BluesNews page at…

The IBC, International Blues Challenge is coming up in January 22nd-26th in Memphis Tennessee and they just added something that I thought was very interesting.  They are going to have a session entitled “The Blues and Race.” This is a very touchy topic, and there are only a few organizations that will dare to
tackle this.  But The Blues Foundation just announced that they will have a panel of people, and the Moderator for the panel is Terri Freeman, the CEO of the National Civil Rights Museum.  Patricipants will include Bobby Rush, Tenny Tucker, Marquise Knox, and Jim O’Neal.  According to the release sent out by the Blues Foundation,  and I’m quoting right from this release….“panel members will discuss the historical significance of race from blues music’s early origins through the present.” This is going to be a good one because every person that have ever heard a blues song has an opinion about the Blues, the origins of it, who stole it, and who owns it now.  That’s just a few of the opinions that I’ve heard over the many years.  Now, I must commend the Blues Foundation for adding this panel discussion because as I said, this is a very touchy topic.  I hope they have a question and answer session, and let the attendees voice their opinions…..This thing could last a whole week….

And last but not least, this is not a Blues Story, but it’s as closely related to the Blues as you can imagine…Netflix is shooting a movie in Memphis about Barbeque.  It’s entitled “Uncorked” And it’s a movie about the owner of a Barbeque joint that’s seeking to expand.  It stars Emmy award winner Courtney B. Vance and the director is Prentice Penny.  According to the Memphis Commercial Appeal, the movie was scheduled to be shot in Nashville, but relocated to Memphis because it’s a Barbeque Story, and a little persuading by some local scouts.  Since this is a Barbeque story, you know it’s going to feature a lot of Blues.  It’s shooting in Memphis and then will move to Paris for a few days of shooting.  One of the Executive Producers of the movie is Drew Brees, the Quarterback of the New Orleans Saints that people in Georgia cannot stand because they beat us twice this year….. We’ll keep an eye on this one and let you know when it is scheduled to hit Netflix.  If you want to read the article in the Memphis Commercial Appeal, we have a link to it on the BluesNews page at BluesTimein….
