THE BLUESNEWS FROM THE WORLD OF THE BLUESBLUES FOR THE WEEKEND OF AUGUST 26-27, 2017 Our condolences go out to the family of legendary Blues Writer, Paul Oliver.  Actually, he was an Architectural Historian by trade, but became one of the greatest blues historians of this era.  He was responsible for penning The Story of Bessie Smith, The Story of the Blues, Broadcasting the Blues, Black Blues in the Segregation Era, Barrelhouse Blues and many many articles on the Blues.  Paul was 90 years old, and the Blues Music Family will certainly miss him….. BLUESTIMEINTHECITY.COMBLUESTIMEINTHECITY.COMBLUESTIMEINTHECITY.COMBLUESTIMEINTHECITY.COMBLUESTIMEINTHECITY.COM I was in Washington DC a few weeks ago at an African-American Museum Conference and one of the guest panelist was Lonnie Bunch, the Founding Director of the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture.  They have an amazing exhibit of the Music of the Blues there.  Of course, he was surrounded by his handlers, his body guards, maybe some Secret Service Agents, A CIA agent or two, and possibly a local DC policeman or two.  All trying to stop the throngs of people from getting to him.  When they saw me coming, they made way for me because they knew I was working for you…..Yeah….Right….I was at the right place at the right time…..I asked Mr. Bunch, with all the exhibits they have at museum, why did they go so far in depth and detain on The Blues….. (Lonnie Bunch Talks) And let me point out, I focused on The Blues because that was my interest.  And I was really surprised by the Love with which they treated the Blues.  They have every genre of African American music you can name there, and it’s worth all the time you spend there.  If you don’t visit any other museum in your lifetime, try to get to DC with the kids and grandkids to see this for yourself.  It’s amazing.
