It is time for the BluesNews From The World of the BluesBlues for the weekend of August 25th and 26th….The last weekend in August….

The Queen of Soul made the transition on August 16th after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. She was only 76 years of age. There have already been several memorial services for The Queen with luminaries such as The Reverend Jesse Jackson, and many others. Thousands of fans have gathered and are still gathering at the New Bethel Baptist Church where Aretha began her singing journey to pay respect to the Queen and leave notes, flowers, albums, and they sang songs of hers as a tribute to her.
The final service will be held Friday, August 31st in Detroit at the Greater Grace Temple. The funeral will be strictly for family and friends. August 28th and 29, there will be public viewings for The Queen at the African American History Museum in Detroit.
Aretha will be laid to rest at Woodlawn Cemetery in Detroit with her father, her brother, her sisters and her nephew. The Queen of Soul, Soul Sister Number 1 is no longer with us, but her music, all of her great music will live with us forever.
