THE BLUESNEWS FROM THE WORLD OF THE BLUESBLUES FOR THE WEEKEND OF JUNE 30-JULY 1, 2018 The Jus Blues Music Awards will take place July 31st through August 5th  in Tunica Mississippi.  This Weekend on BluesTime In The City, we talk with the Executive Director of the Jus Blues Music Foundation about the affair and he presented us with a plethora  of information and activities that will take place this year. Among the new activities are the Blues City Tours to the B.B. King Museum on July 31st, with a stop at the Club Ebony.  Scheduled to perform at Club Ebony is Nellie Tiger Travis.  He also informed us that Ms Nellie Tiger Travis will shoot a video at Club Ebony of her performance. Mr. Mitchell also revealed to us that there will be a special tribute to the late Denise LaSalle on August 2nd, with special performances by Karen Wolfe, Toni Green, Chick Rodgers and Ms Jody. Additional events will include the Historical Conference, Book Signings, The Songwriters Clinic, The Technology Conference and The Jus Blues Juke Joint Party will cap the event off with a special performance by Grady Champion. The Jus Blues Music Foundation is an organization that recognizes those artists that work so hard at their craft, but never get the recognition for it.  Mr. Mitchell and his group seek out these people and honor them with well-deserved awards. If you want to know everything that’s going on this year at The Jus Blues Music Awards in Tunica Mississippi beginning July 31st,  clink the link to their web site.  Mr. Charles Mitchell can be heard on the BluesNews segment in the second hour of BluesTime In The City this weekend June 30th and July 1st in a city near you. http://www.jusbluesmusicawards.org/

THE BLUESNEWS FROM THE WORLD OF THE BLUESBLUES FOR THE WEEKEND OF JUNE 23-24, 2018 There’s a very interesting article on the AmericanBluesScene.com site titled 12 Women Who Changed The Blues.  It’s written by Chloe Richardson.  She has some great ones in her article, some of the all time best in the Blues.  She looked at those women that had to do a little of everything to just survive during their times, and to be on this list.  Here is the list that Chloe chose.  They are Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Sippie Wallace, Bessie Smith, Memphis Minnie, Mamie Smith, Ma Rainey, Bonnie Raitt, Susan Tedeschi, Beth Hart, Shemekia Copeland, Samantha Fish, and Larkin Poe.  It’s a pretty good list, but, if she had asked me, which she didn’t, I certainly would have had KoKo Taylor on there, Denise LaSalle, Victoria Spivey, Alberta Hunter, and certainly Etta James and even Deborah Coleman on there.  But she didn’t ask me.  There’s a nice bio and video on each lady that’s chosen, and it’s a very good article, even though I don’t agree with some of the choices.  Who would be your 12 Women who changed the Blues.  Tweet me @rojeneblues or email me at ro@bluestimeinthecity.com and let me know.  I’m just curious….Here’s a link to the article…..

We’ll let you know when it’s released.  The Neal Family is one talented Family, but bad stuff keep happening to them….
