THE BLUESNEWS FROM THE WORLD OF THE BLUESBLUES FOR THE WEEKEND OF JULY 29-30, 2017 We’ve been talking about it, and now it’s here…The 2017 Jus Blues Music Awards and Conference will be held next week August 2nd through the 5th in Tunica Mississippi and Memphis Tennessee.  This is the awards show that recognizes Blues and Southern Soul artists that have been somewhat overlooked by the other award shows. (Charles Mitchell Audio) That’s Charles Mitchell the Executive Director of the Jus Blues Music Foundation, and other honorees will include Benny Turner, Ronnie Baker Brooks, Carl Sims, Tony Coleman, Joe Louis Walker, Calvin Richardson, Grady Champion, Eugene Hideaway Bridges, Jim Alexander, Tenny Tucker and more… On Wednesday, they’ll have the Honoree Reception….Thursday, the Awards Program itself, hosted by Willie Clayton and Bev Johnson,  on Friday,  the Historical Conference, Book Signings,  and the Juke Joint Party Fish Fry, and on Saturday the 5th, they’ll have the College Fair, yes they hit all ages, and later on Saturday in Memphis at the Paradise Entertainment Center, which is packed with musical history itself, they’ll have the White Linen Party with a special performance by the legendary Millie Jackson….For More information, we have a link to the Awards Show and Conference on the BluesNews Page on Bluestimeinthecity.com…. www.jusblues.org BLUESTIMEINTHECITY.COMBLUESTIMEINTHECITY.COMBLUESTIMEINTHECITY.COMBLUESTIMEINTHECITY.COMBLUESTIMEINTHECITY.COM And some sad news to report…L.C. Cook, R & B artist and younger brother of Sam Cooke made the transition July 21st.  L.C. was the fifth of ten kids, and they originally spelled their last name “Cook.”  When L.C. and Sam pursured their recording careers, they added the “E” for what reason, I don’t know.  L.C. recorded on his brother’s Sam SAR Label and released singles including “The Wobble,” and Put Me Down Easy. “  When Sam made the transition in 1964, L.C. toured with the Upsetters  , the back up band for Little Richard.  ABKCO Records released recently, L.C. Cooke: The Complete SAR Recording, which was L.C.’s first full length Album.  Our condolences to out to the family of L.C. Cooke…….
