THE BLUESNEWS FROM THE WORLD OF THE BLUESBLUES FOR THE WEEKEND OF JANUARY 27-28, 2018 There’s an article on the American Blues Scene web site by JD Nash titled “What Happened To Janis Joplin’s Porshce”? Janis reportly bought the 1964 Porsche two weeks before she died.  She paid 3500 Dollars for the 356 C Cariolet in Beverly Hills.  It was gray when she bought it, but when she had it re painted, it became a , as described in the article, a bumper to bumper canvas, which was called The History of the Universe.  Her Roadie at the time Dave Richards was given some cash, and told to go to work on the car.  Psychedelic was in vogue at the time, and he painted images of Big Brother and the Holding Company, California landscapes, the Eye of God, Janis’ astrological sign, which was Capricorn, skulls, mushrooms, butterflies, and more.  Now mind you, this was on a Porsche.  Janis made the transition on October 4, 1970 and her manager, Albert Grossman, took possession of it.  He kept it until 1975 and Grossman decided to return it to Janis’ family, her siblings Laura and Michael that lived in Ohio.  To make a long story short, the car began to wear.  They had it painted gray again, it’s original color, but decided in the early 90’s to go back to The History of The Universe for the car.  They commissioned two artists to do this, and did a decent job of making it Psychedelic again, the one Janis loved.  The car went to Museums, and spent 20 years in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland Ohio.  In 2015, the heirs took possession of the Porsche and put it up for auction… You won’t believe how much the car brought in…… We have a link to the article on the BluesNew Page at BluesTimeInTheCity.com….JD Nash did an amazing job with this article….. https://www.americanbluesscene.com/janis-joplins-porsche-1/ And the winners are:  From the 2018 International Blues Challenge… Representing the Atlanta Blues Society for Best Self Produced CD….Blue Metamorphasis, Jontavious Willis Representing Central Iowa Blues Society for Cigar Box Award-Harp….Kevin B.F. THE BLUESNEWS FROM THE WORLD OF THE BLUESBLUES FOR THE WEEKEND OF JANUARY 20-21, 2018   The Great Denise LaSalle funeral service was held last Monday in Jackson Tennessee.  Denise passed away on Monday January 8th.  The service was originally scheduled for Saturday, January 13th, but because the extremely bad weather in Tennessee, they moved it to last Monday.  Denise LaSalle was one of the greatest Blues Women and Blues Singer to sing and perform the Blues.  She was also a great writer of Blues, R & B and Country, and she will certainly be missed.  We’ve been paying homage to Denise throughout the show, and will continue to do so until the end of the show today.  In 2015, The Jus Blues Music Foundation named an award in Denise’s honor, and Denise expressed what an honor it was for this to happen to her while she was still alive to enjoy it….. (Denise on Jus Blues Award) This Belzoni Mississippi native was also honored by the Mississippi State Legislature, has a Mississippi Blues Trail Marker, The story of Denise’s demise was carried nationally from every publication in the country from the Times to the Journal, Television, Radio and every publication you can name, even the Television Arts and Sciences Academy.  Denise LaSalle was 78 years of age. BLUESTIMEINTHECITY.COM BLUESTIMEINTHECITY.COM BLUESTIMEINTHECITY.COM BLUESTIMEINTHECITY.COM BLUESTIMEINTHECITY.COM According to AmericanBluesScene.com, “The Thrill is on” is a film that’s in the early stages of production of a true story of a young musician named Michael Zanetis who is in pursuit of his destiny.  In 1980, this you musician attends a B.B. King concert, and they meet, and form a lifelong friendship.  The journey of this young musician eventually leads him to memorial BB with his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1990, where BB was the first Blues Artist to receive this honor.  B.B. King will be portrayed by Wendell Pierce and filming will begin in April of this year.  Should be a pretty good film…. BLUESTIMEINTHECITY.COM BLUESTIMEINTHECITY.COM BLUESTIMEINTHECITY.COM BLUESTIMEINTHECITY.COM BLUESTIMEINTHECITY.COM There is a documentary on Eric Clapton titled Life in 12 Bars.  The documentary visually chronicles the life of Eric Clapton over his musical career.  It even has the visuals in it where back in the 70’s he was on stage shouting racist slogans, such as “Keep Britian White” and other racist chants.  If you read the stories, he said a lot of racists slurs.  Clapton says he is ashamed of how he acted during those time, and says he is not a racist.  Reminds you of the other guys who says the same thing.  Naturally, “I am not a racist” is the go to answer for racists….. The documentary will air on ShowTime…Check your local listings.
