And speaking of Christmas, just in time for Christmas is “Shake Your Hips: The Excello Records Story.”  It’s a rare look at one of the most unusual labels to come out in the 50’s, according to American Blues  Scene.com… According to Kate Hyman who conceived the project, “We want to celebrate the days when fans would buy records based on the logo alone.” And if you know anything about records from back in the day, the Excello name was very prominent on each of their records.  Excello was based in Nashville Tennessee, and they brought the sound of jump blues, southern rock and roll, gospel, and even swamp music to records all across the country through their relationship with WLAC Radio in Nashville Tennessee.  The owner of a small Record store by the name of Ernie’s Record Mart who’s owner Ernie Young forged that relationship and created a hugely successful mail order business in 1951….They had artists such as Jerry McCain, Arthur Gunter, Lil Al Gunter, Kid King, Ernie Gaines,  and many others….Very interesting concept and if you would like to read the article, we have a link to it on the BluesNews Page at bluestimeinthecity.com…
